The Old Drogheda Society will host a lecture by local community historian , Brendan Matthews entitled "To Hell or Barbados " in the
Governors House , Millmount on Wednesday June 24th at 8pm . The lecture will give a new insight into the storming of Drogheda by Oliver Cromwell in 1649 and its aftermath when thousands of Irish people were transported to Barbados to work as slaves on the sugar plantations.
A delegation from Barbados will visit Drogheda from July 2nd to July 5th to mark the occasion and Bredan's lecture will tell the extraordinary story of the "Irish Slaves of the Caribbean"
There will be a book stall on the night and all are welcome.
